The Dragons managed to overcome a difficult season with Steve McNamara’s side the epitome of inconstancy. Excellent one week and terrible the next.

Catalan Dragons 2020 Season Review

Catalans have faced great adversity throughout the 2020 Betfred Super League season, with the French side forced to fly to England on the day of their games,  the cost of travel being paid by their owner Bernard Guasch.

On the field the Dragons struggled with inconsistency. Excellent one week and terrible the next. They were one of the most unpredictable teams in Super League, scoring a total of 98 points in wins against Castleford and Wakefield in England. When given a home game in Perpignan in front of 5,000 fans against Wigan Warriors they fell short and were well beaten. A good example of Catalans inconsistency throughout the season.

The Dragons were only able to play 13 Super League games, but did find themselves in fourth at the end of the season having won eight. On the opening weekend of the Play-offs, they saw off the Leeds Rhinos to set up a Semi Final at the home of the reigning Betfred Super League Champions St Helens.

In a fiery match which saw two Catalan players sent to the sin bin, it proved to be a step to far for the Dragons, with St Helens coming away with a comfortable 48-2 victory to reach the Grand Final.

The aim for the 2021 season for the Dragons will to be consistent on a weekly basis playing in England and in France. With the hope to be involved in cup finals, and to replicate their form from 2018 when they won the Challenge Cup.
