Manchester United look to keep up with Manchester City as Everton visit Old Trafford

Both Manchester United and Everton come into tomorrow’s match after good wins in midweek.

Manchester United thrashed Southampton 9-0 at Old Trafford equaling the Premier League record and becoming the league’s top goal scorers at the same time. The second time the Saints have lost 9-0 in as many seasons. Red cards for Alex Jankewitz and Jan Bednarek capped off an awful night for Ralph Hassenhuttl’s side.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka opened the scoring with his first goal at Old Trafford and a brace for Anthony Martial ended an eight-match goal drought for the striker. United put their poor form in recent matches behind them after a 0-0 draw away at Arsenal and falling to a disappointing 2-1 home defeat to Sheffield United.

Everton also come into this game on the back of a win in their last game as they beat Leeds United at Elland Road.

First-half goals from Gylfi Sigurdsson and Dominic Calvert-Lewin were enough to take the three points for the Blues. A second-half goal from Raphinha pulled Leeds back into the game but they were unable to find an equaliser.

The win took Everton up to sixth, only four points behind rivals Liverpool with two games in hand over the Reds.

Team News

Phil Jones is still out for the visit of Everton, but apart from that Ole Gunner Solskjaer has a full squad to choose from. Edinson Cavani picked up ankle issue in the win over Southampton and will be monitored ahead of the game.

Robin Olsen started in goal against Leeds with Jordan Pickford missing out through injury. Carlo Ancelotti confirmed in his press conference Olsen will retain his place in goal with Everton’s number one unable to recover in time for the trip to Old Trafford.

Jean Philippe-Gbamin will also miss out. Allan started training again with the team today but the game against United will come too soon for the Brazilian. Fabian Delph who was available for the Leeds game will be in contention to start this weekend.

New signing Josh King made his debut for Everton against Leeds coming off the bench. The striker is expected to start on the bench again this weekend.

Last time out between the two sides, Manchester United came from behind to win the game 3-1. A brace from Bruno Fernandes put United ahead after an early goal from Calvert-Lewin gave the Blues the lead. Cavani sealed the win in stoppage time.

The sides faced each other in the Carabao Cup quarter-final with United coming away with a 2-0 win after late goals from Cavani and Martial.

Carlo Ancellotti will be hoping its third time lucky for his side this weekend with a win at Old Trafford, massive in their ambitions of a top-four spot at the end of the season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, on the other hand, will be hoping his side can continue where they left off against Southampton, with a win vital in the hopes of winning their first Premier League title since 2012.
