Cray Valley Paper Mills player and key worker fights back after losing friend to cancer

With the onset of further restrictions as winter catches hold, Cray Valley (PM) midfielder Kieron McCann has set out on a challenge inspired by the loss of a neighbour and close family friend.

Kieron plans to run a total of 496 miles during January – increasing daily from one mile on day one, to 31 miles on 31st January – to raise money for the Daryl Bryan Foundation in support of Brain Tumour Research.

“Darel was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme, an extremely aggressive brain tumour, in 2014 when he was just 33 years old” said Kieron.

“He bravely fought this cruel disease for 15 months before sadly losing his battle on 26th February 2016. Darel was just one of those guys.”

Joining the Millers from Folkestone Invicta at the start of this season,McCann led the Pitching In Isthmian League SE side on an amazing FA Cup journey – falling at the sixth hurdle in the First Round Proper at Havant & Waterlooville in November.

The 28 year old Railway Track Engineer is combining his running with continuing to work.

“I’m a key worker, so I’ll be running before going to work. My longest runs will be taking me between three and seven hours before going straight to work.

“I’ll then be working through the night, come home, sleep, and cook for the day before going again. It’s one big cycle, but all for a worthwhile cause.

“I’m documenting the entire 31 days on my Instagram account (macamccann). Feel free to tune in, or go one better and come and get a few miles in with us. All donations will be greatly appreciated, no matter how big or small.”
