Coventry look to go five games unbeaten in crucial six pointer against Rotherham

Coventry City and Rotherham United meet at St Andrews this weekend with both sides aiming to move further away from the drop zone with a win which could be vital for either side.

The two newly promoted sides have spent the majority of the season at the wrong end of the table. However, both have shown hope of staying up this season…but as we all know, anything can happen in the EFL. 

The Sky Blues come into this fixture after consecutive 1-1 draws away to Norwich City and Derby County, and on paper these are good results. With 5 draws thus far this season the home side will be looking to turn some of these draws into wins.  

However, in recent weeks they have left it very late just to get the draw, with both equalisers coming after the 89th minute.  

Mark Robins’ men have conceded the most goals in the Championship this season which is a worrying stat. But have looked more solid in recent games, conceding only two goals in their last four games.  

Without defeat in four games, Robins described this as “a step forward” in their bid to avoid immediate relegation back to League One.  

On the other hand, Rotherham have not kept a clean sheet in seven games. A stat that may be of concern for Millers boss Paul Warne. 

The away side will hope that on loan Leicester City striker George Hirst can get his first goal of the season as he has now played 10 times this season and hasn’t scored one goal.

The South Yorkshire side have won two out of their last 55 away matches in the Championship which is an awful statistic, and a key factor in their constant switching between the divisions.  

Coventry have not beaten the Millers for six years. They will also want to end the home curse, having gone 18 years without a victory at home to the visitors. 

Mark Robins speaks very highly of Tyler Walker, a product of the Nottingham Forest academy, and will be hoping the 24-year-old can add to his one goal in the league this season with the absence of top scorer Matt Godden. 

 

Coventry manager Robins said:

“We needed to find our feet and I think that some of the attacking play and some of the movements have been outstanding.” 

In recent weeks Warne has employed a new 3-5-2 system for his team and ahead of this fixture said: 

“There is a massive physical demand for the front five and with five subs it gives you the confidence to experiment with systems. If it isn’t working you can flip it straight away.”
