Vardy and Leicester punish Leeds United’s naivety at the back

Youri Tielemans scored two goals including a late penalty as Leicester City rioted to a 4-1 win in West Yorkshire.

Leicester were ruthless. Leeds United played some good football. It was a fast-paced game, which would have been a great watch for any neutrals.

This takes the Foxes to second in the table after their fifth away win on the bounce in all competitions. An impressive statistic.

Both of the clubs have had good starts to the season, and similarly were both missing key players for the game.

Brendan Rodgers only had one centre half on the pitch in a back five, and that was 19-year-old Wesley Fofana, who showed excellent maturity in the way he played, controlling the back-line.

It was a game which was eagerly awaited by many, two managers who are known for being tactically brilliant. Rodgers came on top in the first meeting between the two and now that is Guardiola, Arteta and Bielsa that the Northern Irishman has beaten… all without some of his best players.

Rodrigo’s importance to Leeds was really highlighted in his absence last night. Even with a number of defensive errors costing the home side, it’s fair to say they didn’t look like they were about to recreate the punishing attacking football that stunned Aston Villa in the game prior to this.

Even the form Bamford has been in and he missed multiple chances which Leeds fans will be disappointed with. After all, everybody is human.

However, up the other end of the pitch Jamie Vardy was doing his best impression of Dennis The Menace, he was a handful all night for Liam Cooper and Robin Koch. Vintage Vardy thrived in this kind of game, Leicester sat deep soaked up the pressure and you already know what happens next.

The introduction of Cengiz Under off of the bench once again provided a goal with the Roma loanee assisting Vardy from the right wing for a second consecutive game.

Vardy was involved in three goals and once again at 33 shows no signs of slowing down in arguably one of his best Leicester performances… and there’s been lots of them.

He is simply irreplaceable, but I’m sure the tremendous scouting team that Leicester have will be working day and night looking out for potential Vardy replacements in the future.

Even with Bielsa being outsmarted against Rodgers, the Argentine can look forward to an exciting season with Leeds United. With seven games gone, the newly promoted side have picked up three wins. They have shown they can score goals; however, they must try and avoid individual mistakes which costed them the game against Leicester who punished them at any moment they slipped.

Leicester look forward to two hard games in the next week before another international break, they face Braga and Wolves both at home. Whilst Leeds travel to Crystal Palace.
