Winless Mansfield Town and Barrow look to grab their first victory when they face each other on Tuesday

The Stags face newly promoted Barrow on Tuesday as the two teams still hunt for their first victories in League Two as after seven games they are still to pick up one.

Mansfield Town have a tough task ahead of them as they welcome Barrow AFC to the One Call Stadium.

The Stags managed another point during the weekend that has just gone against promotion-chasing Cheltenham Town.

On paper, this game looked like it would be a mauling from the Robins as last season’s Play-Off semi-finalists chase a place in the top three of the league to go up into League One.

However, it was different on the day of the game. Chances for Alfie May and for the Mansfield forwards didn’t go in as the game finished 0-0 and the Stags moved up to 21st after the draw.

Barrow had a similar fate to Mansfield as they faced Walsall on Saturday, with the Saddlers still unbeaten in League Two.

Dior Angus gave newly-promoted Barrow the lead in the 25th minute and Caolan Lavery gave Walsall a crucial equaliser just before half-time.

Luke James put Barrow in-front again and eight minutes later the scores were tied at 2-2 as Lavery levelled the scoring from the penalty spot.

The score would finish that way as Walsall their third consecutive game and jumped into 12th place and Barrow drew their second consecutive win and into 19th place.

Stags’ boss Graham Coughlan says that the points picked up by Mansfield away from home this week will only be viewed as ‘good points’ if his side capitalise on their upcoming two home fixtures.

“It looked like it was a game of two halves. It looked as though we were the better team in the first-half and they probably shaded the second-half.

“It’s okay having the best patterns of play, but it’s winning that we’re here for. It gives us a foothold and something to build on.

“It [the result]is no great achievement, but Cheltenham will be up there, mark my words. This was a game last year where we lost 1-0, and it was there for the taking at the end [today].

“A point at Morecambe and a point at Cheltenham away from home – that certainly shows character and that we’re going in the right direction.

“I would say the next two games are vital to us, if we’re to build on the Morecambe and Cheltenham games.”

David Dunn admitted his frustration at another draw on home soil but the Barrow boss was encouraged by the calibre of his side’s performance against Walsall.

“I thought it was a really good and positive performance, both individually and collectively.

“The way we played, the way we passed the ball – I thought we looked a real threat and were probably unlucky not to go in three or four up at half-time because their keeper made some really good saves.

“We’re disappointed with the draw but that was a really positive performance, for me. There was a real belief in our play and the lads really trusted each other with that ball.

“I couldn’t criticise any of the lads today; there was perhaps a few little moments of daft decision making that we get punished for but if we play like that going forward then we’ll be fine.

“I thought Luke James and Harrison Biggins did ever so well off Dior who led the win really well and but for their keeper making those saves we should be home and dry.

“The players are giving the Club everything, they work their socks off every day and if they keep on putting in performances like that then we’ll be fine.”

The Stags have not been beaten by the Bluebirds since the 2009/10 season as Barrow beat Mansfield 3-1 on a September afternoon.

Mansfield Town beat Barrow 4-0 last time out in the 2012/13 season on route to claiming the Conference title and a place back in the Football League.

This will be the first meeting between the two since Mansfield’s promotion back into League Two and will be a tight affair between the two as they search for a win in League Two for the very first time this season.
