National League round-up: Hartlepool and Sutton continue perfect start

Hartlepool continued their impressive start to the Vanarama National League season after completing their third win in succession with a comfortable 4-0 victory at wineless Maidenhead United.

Pool scored either side of half time with an Alan Massey own goal and a Claudio Ofoso’s effort two minutes after the restart. Things got progressively worse for the Magpies when Ryan Johnson struck on 52 minutes. The icing on the cake was delivered by Gavin Holohan as the North East outfit made the long trip back to Hartlepool much happier.

Sutton United also made it three wins from three with a late strike from Will Randall proving the only goal of the game in the 81st minute at Weymouth.

Woking travelled to Chesterfield looking to continue their 100% winning start to the season. The home side struck early when Tom Denton netted after just four minutes. The Cards were still in the game with six minutes to go before the Spirites hit three late goals, including a brace from youngster Luke Rawson to complete a 4-0 victory.

Yeovil Town entertained Wrexham down in the West Country with the Welsh side claiming all three points compliments of Kwame Thomas’s early goal after ten minutes.

Notts County saw off Barnet 4-2 at Meadow Lane in an entertaining encounter on Saturday. County found themselves 3-0 up after 23 minutes with goals from Callum Roberts, Kyle Wooton and Enzio Boldewijn.

The visitors pulled a goal back on the stroke of half time through JJ Hooper. With fifteen minutes to go Barnet set up a nervy finish for the hosts when Hooper bagged his second of the afternoon. It was left to Michael Doyle to settle the issue with County’s fourth.

Eastleigh and Altrincham had to settle for a share of the points with the visitors opening the scoring through Yusifu Ceesay after 11 minutes. On the stroke of half time Cav Miley drew Eastleigh level with a share of the spoils the right result.

John Rooney’s two second half goals and an Alex Reid tap-in was sufficient enough for County to see off Dover Athletic and continue their good start to life in the National League.

Boreham Wood and FC Halifax Town played out a goalless draw in Hertfordshire. Wood were grateful for their goalkeeper Nathan Ashmore who single handily denied Halifax.

Solihull Moors produced a five star display against newly promoted Kings Lynn. The home side thumped Lynn 5-0, thanks to a second half brace from teenage striker Cameron Archer, on loan from Premier League side Aston Villa. Moors other goals came from Joe Sbarra, Jamey Osborne and Callum Howe.

Danny Wright’s last-gasp penalty completed an excellent turnaround from Torquay after completing a 2-1 victory at Bromley.

Byron Webster netted for the hosts after 17 minutes, but the Gulls levelled after 61 through Adam Randall, only for late drama from Wright to snatch all three points for Torquay.

Dagenham and Redbridge recorded their first win of the season with a 1-0 victory at home against Wealdstone. Angelo Balanta’s second half strike was enough to take all three points against the plucky newcomers.
