Whyteleafe advance to Concord match in 3rd Q Round

Whyteleafe FC will face Concord Rangers in the FA Cup Third Qualifying Round after the Leafe came back from 1-0 down to win the game 3-1, away to Burnham FC.

Concord beat Potters Bar Town after also going 1-0 down to qualify for the next round of the competition.

The Beach Boys beat Town away from home after the initial fixture, on Saturday, was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. Concord were due to be the hosts for the fixture but with struggles to make the pitch playable, a request was made to reverse the fixture.

The new FA rule was that if the game is not played by the end of Monday, both teams will need to forfeit from the National Competition.

Potters Bar went 1-0 up in the first half thanks to a Samson Esan goal, who steered the ball into the bottom corner, past Chris Haigh. Alex Wall equalised for the Beach Boys before a 70th minute own goal put Concord 2-1 up. In additional time, Concord’s Babalola was given a second yellow card for a reckless tackle.

That wasn’t the end of the drama. Hanfrey was sent off for Concord after Kieron Cathline kicked him in the back of the head, resulting in the Concord defender to react and push the opposition over. Cathline also saw red.

In a game that ended 10 vs 9, Concord go through to the next round.

Whyteleafe also came from behind in their game, to beat Burnham. Brad Holland put the Blues ahead in the 3rd minute before Helge Orome and Aaron Watson gave the lead to Whyteleafe on the stroke of half-time.

Leafe kept the lead throughout the second half, right to the end, adding to the one-goal lead in the 90th minute, thanks so a goal by Ricardo Thompson. To add to Burnham’s problems goal scorer, Brad Holland, was sent off, leaving the Blues to lose the game 3-1, whilst down to 10-men.
