While the comeback was an improvement on their 1-0 exit in the FAI Cup just three days earlier at home to the same opposition, it leaves the Lilywhites sitting third in the league table with only one point from their last three league matches.

Dundalk went behind to goals from Matty Smith and Kurtis Byrne but rallied late on after Waterford went down to 10 men with 12 minutes left to play when Alistair Coote was sent off for a second yellow card. Pat Hoban halved the deficit in the 84th minute for Dundalk before Daniel Cleary completed the late comeback with an equaliser in injury time.
After the match Dundalk’s manager Vinny Perth was fuming at comments made by ex-Ireland international John Sheridan who is now Waterford City’s manager. “He said the Irish league is a shambles, a pub league. I don’t have time for that. I love this league. I don’t expect John Sheridan to respect me but I do expect him to respect the league. I care too much about it.”
However Shelbourne FC, who are sitting one point behind Waterford in 6th place in the league, saw the funnier side of Sheridan’s remarks when they posted the following message on their official Twitter account after they secured a late draw to 7th placed Derry City.
