Huddersfield travel to Millwall looking to end the season on a high

An all but safe Huddersfield Town travel to the capital to face mid-tabled Millwall in the final game of the Championship season.

Dan Crowley was relived of his duties at the weekend after the Terriers beat West Brom 2-1 on Friday, the result virtually secured their Championship status. Development coach Danny Schofield will take charge of the final game, but it is believed that Leeds United’s number two Carlos Corberan will be in the managerial hotseat next season.

Millwall having been so close to the play-off positions since the restart had their hopes shattered after losing 4-3 away at Queens Park Rangers. A win against Huddersfield could put them as high as 7th in the table, which would be their highest finish in the Championship since 2001/02 season.

Team news

For Millwall, Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and Matt Smith could be brought back into the starting lineup after impressing off the bench in recent games.

Derby County loanee Mason Bennett will not take part after sustaining an injury in the loss at Loftus Road at the weekend.

Huddesfield Town, will only be without long term absentee Tommy Elphick, the defender picked up a knee injury back in November.

Millwall manager Gary Rowett has insisted that the Lions ‘want to finish the season strongly’.

“We want to treat the last game as any other, we want to go out and win it. If that gives some player opportunities because I think they deserve it, that’s one thing. If that means some players have to go again then they’re going to have to show the mentality to go again.”

Huddesfield Town caretaker manger Danny Schofield is looking forward to being in charge for Wednesday’s match.

“It’s a great opportunity. I’m not sure whether this experience will ever come again, so I’m looking to enjoy every moment of it. Millwall being an ex-club of mine as well, I think it’s quite surreal really. I’m looking forward to it.”
