Exeter were the first side through to the final after they were went 2-0 up in the 90 minutes but Courtney Senior was able to score one vital goal for Colchester to take the game to extra-time. Ryan Bowman 111th minute strike proved decisive in sending Exeter to Wembley.
Northampton completed a comeback against Cheltenham after a Callum Morton tapped home in the 77th minute.
Both teams look to have a fully strength squad with no injury worries as they look to put on a real show for the fans watching from home.
“It’s such a shame the fans weren’t here to witness it.
“To win that game in extra time they would have been on the pitch and the players need to understand what a big moment that is.
“For the last three-and-a-half or four months Exeter City have shown great games of old on the website. The lads have been involved in that today.
“I was slightly disappointed not to go in 2-0 up at half time. We started really well and really positively. I know when we went to Colchester everything was possibly a little bit slow and possibly a little bit mundane, but that’s the first game back.
“You could see what it took out of us at the end of 90 minutes and the start of extra time, but if anything we got stronger and stronger as that game went on.”
“I’m very proud. Not just of the performance, but a lot of work has gone on behind the scenes.
“I’m obviously immensely proud of the players and coaching staff, but the staff at the club, the medical staff, the chief executive, the chairman, the secretary – they’ve all played their part in giving us a platform. Everything has been done correctly.
“Our plan was to get the first goal knowing that can have an impact.
“A 2-0 lead is a difficult lead, especially in a second leg at home. It’s a mental challenge for the players.
“We know what it feels like when you’re 2-0 up and the opposition scores. We wanted Cheltenham to have that feeling because we thought we could impose ourselves.”
