A tight contest between Everton and Manchester United ends in a 1-1 draw

Everton and Manchester United shared the spoils at Goodison Park. The home side took the lead through a David de Gea mistake with Dominic Calvert-Lewin pouncing to score. Bruno Fernandes restored a point for United with his first-goal from open play.

Everton stay 11th and United fifth.

The opener came early when David de Gea made a fatal mistake in the third minute as he cleared the ball up the pitch. Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin pounced on the mistake from the Spanish keeper to make it 1-0 to Everton.

Calvert-Lewin nearly doubled the lead a minute later. This time the Manchester United keeper saved the shot and pushed it out for a corner.

Manchester United fought back. Nemanja Matic’s shot cannoned off the crossbar and back into play with Everton able to clear the ball away.

Ten minutes into the game, Manchester United were able to string a few great passes. Anthony Martial pulled the trigger but saw his shot go wide of the goal. United were piling on the pressure, Matic shot again but Pickford was equal to it before Mason Greenwood headed the ball narrowly over the bar from a Fred cross.

In the 28th minute, the injured Seamus Coleman was replaced by Djibril Sidibé.

In the 31st minute, Manchester United levelled it up. The man of the moment Bruno Fernandes was able to fire a shot beyond Jordan Pickford to level the scores.

Before half time, Leighton Baines floated a cross into the Manchester United box with Richarlison’s effort going wide of the target.

The first 15 minutes of the second-half were very close, both sides looked to get a goal that would put them ahead.

Manchester United were nearly through with Greenwood. A fantastic dummy from Fernandes saw Greenwood running through. He was able to release a pass to Anthony Martial whose shot was blocked.

Calvert-Lewin came closest for Everton, firing his shot at the front post to be saved by De Gea.

Baines was once more Everton’s saviour. Fernandes looked to pick out Odion Ighalo, but the English left-back was able to clear the ball away for a corner. In the 80th minute, Fernandes tried to flash a shot goalwards, but his shot did not have the power to trouble Pickford in goal.

Fantatsic reactions from Pickford saved a point. Ighalo looked to have won the game for United, but the goalkeeper denied the Nigerian a certain goal with a great save.
