Four goals, four clean sheets, and four straight wins for Leeds

Leeds United continue their road to the Premier League following a rampant 4-0 win at the KCOM Stadium.

It was announced on Friday that Leeds’ keeper Kiko Casilla would serve an eight-match ban following being found guilty of racial abusing Charlton’s Jonathan Leko. This meant that 19-year-old Illan Meslier started in goal for the Yorkshire Derby.

But Leeds still prevailed without their Spanish No.1. Luke Ayling opened the scoring in the fifth minute after his effort deflected off Callum Elder into the bottom corner.

The West Yorkshire could have gone two up just a few minutes later after Pablo Hernandez’s attempt hit the crossbar.

There were very few opportunities in the first half following the opening goal. One of the highlights of the half was when some of the travelling Leeds supporters were relocated after they appeared to be in the home end of the ground.

Hull almost equalised just 90 seconds after the break, when George Honeyman’s cross found Sean Mcloughlin’s head, however, it proved a comfortable save for Meslier.

Just moments after McLoughlin’s header, Leeds went up the other end and doubled their lead. Helder Costa laid it off to Pablo Hernandez who slotted it into the corner of the net.

Leeds searched for a third and almost found when Jack Harrison’s shot from outside the area hit the woodwork.

Hull then almost got a goal back with under 25 minutes left. When Daniel Batty played it to debutant Norbert Balogh. But for the frame of the goal was there once again to deny the ball finding the net.

Tyler Roberts then replaced Patrick Bamford up front and scored a brace in the final 20 minutes. The first was when Roberts was at the end of a clinical lay off Mateusz Klich with nine minutes left. The second was a header, which Klich assisted.

Leeds’ 4-0 win at Hull means they head back across the M62 with an eight-point gap over Fulham who take on Preston this afternoon.

For Hull, the fulltime whistle was met with boos from the home supporters. They are now winless in ten games and look to be in the thick of a relegation dogfight.
