Mansfield Town look to build on Newport win when they travel to Cheltenham Town

The Stags travel to promotion pushing Cheltenham Town on Saturday needing to string a good set of results to climb up the table.

Last time out, the Stags recorded a 1-0 win over Newport in testing conditions at One Call Stadium. Frontman Danny Rose scored the game’s only goal in the 29th minute of the contest.

Cheltenham made it two wins on the bounce on Saturday with a 2-1 over Leyton Orient. Conor Wilkinson gave the O’s the lead, but strikes from Alfie May and Reuben Reid turned the game around for the Robins.

Team news

Wing-back Kellan Gordon will miss the game due to a back injury, while the game will likely also come too soon for midfielder Alex MacDonald.

Defender Joe Riley will continue to be assessed in the days leading up to the fixture.

Cheltenham Town have no fresh injuries to report on.

Cheltenham Town boss Michael Duff has warned his players of the threat Saturday’s opposition carry despite their lowly position in the division.

“I think the one thing they’ll probably be disappointed with Mansfield this year is their defensive record,” Duff said.

“They have conceded quite a few goals but the new manager has come in, kept a clean sheet last week, and they’ve got goals in the team.

“It’s pretty much the same team that just missed out last year. It’s the same players – so they’re a dangerous opponent.

“They’re in a false position and they can go to any place in the League and stick three or four on anyone because they’ve got the players to do it.”

Mansfield Town assistant boss Joe Dunne says that the Stags’ management team will continue to ‘push standards’ after a ‘great win’ at home to Newport County AFC on Saturday.

“The effort and commitment from the team [against Newport]was exceptional,” he told iFollow Stags. “The courage at the end of the game to see out the result in difficult conditions, it was a great win.

“We’re not going to get carried away – the gaffer [Graham Coughlan] expects this on a regular basis. They key thing is we approach training this week with the same mentality.

“We want to push our standards and remain committed – we want to keep the motivation high to try and get more wins.”

Head-to-head

Last time the team faced against each other Cheltenham travelled to the One Call Stadium in December, with the visitors earning a 3-0 victory.
