Spurs look to recover from midweek disappointment against Burnley

After defeat at Old Trafford on Wednesday, Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham host Burnley on Saturday.

These two sides both fell to defeats against the two Manchester clubs, who face each other in the late kick-off tomorrow, and will be keen to taste victory once again.

The home side currently sit in eighth and will know that they can breach the top six once again with a win whilst Sean Dyche’s Burnley aim to climb back into the top half.

Team news

Hugo Lloris, Ben Davies, Erik Lamela and Michel Vorm remain the four main absentees for Spurs with the club confirming all had now begun their rehabilitation stage.

Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson is definitely out whilst Charlie Taylor, Phil Bardsley and Kevin Long are doubtful for the fixture. Ashley Westwood returns from suspension for the Clarets whilst Dyche will be hopeful of Ashley Barnes featuring.

Jose Mourinho was clear on the response expected from his side in his pre-match press conference:

“I want to expect a team that wants to go back to victories, a team that wants to go, step by step, to improve the position in the table.

Where we are is not where we want to be and I’m 100 per cent sure that it’s not going to be the position where we are going to end the season, but we need to get points which we did – six in two matches – but then, of course, after a defeat you have to try to go back to victories.”

Sean Dyche was looking forward to what appears to be a favourable run for the Clarets after this fixture when speaking for the club’s website:

“Man City were too strong. Tottenham are strong at the moment and we’ll see how that goes with a new manager etc.

“But there are very good opportunities coming for us, and we look forward to what I think is a good opportunity to recover good form.

“There are good games coming and games that we certainly think we can definitely compete in.

“We’ve shown that before and we want to take points. But that comes off the back of performances and performances are still the lead for me.”
