Manchester United stunned by late equaliser from Sheffield United

Manchester United’s poor away form continued as Oliver McBurnie’s late strike shared the points at Bramall Lane.

Manchester United continue to disappoint in the Premier League as they dropped points against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Sunday.

Ole Gunnar Solksjaer decided to match Sheffield by going with a three-man defence. Phil Jones started his first league game of the season while Brandon Williams kept his place in the line-up after an impressive league debut against Brighton.

Chris Wilder was also forced to make two changes. Phil Jagielka was handed a rare starting place in the league while Simon Moore also made his Premier League debut.

The home side started the game positively as the Red Devils were camped in their box. David De Gea made a superb double save in the 13th minute to keep United in the game. Sheffield United’s positive approach eventually paid off in the 19th minute when Lys Mousset got the better of Jones and squared the ball.

De Gea saved John Lundstram’s initial shot, but John Fleck showed great awareness to guide the ball into the net.

Wilder’s men started raising the tempo of their game after scoring the first goal. United were struggling to cope with their aggressive pressing and tenacity. The visitors had only one shot in the first half, courtesy of Anthony Martial’s tame effort in 29th minute.

Solskjaer brought Jesse Lingard after the break for Phil Jones. A change of formation didn’t make an immediate impact. Sheffield started from where they left at half-time. They kept on pressing United’s midfield and defence. This pressure eventually led to the second goal as Mousset calmly finished a sublime counter-attack to double the home side’s lead.

Sheffield decided to sit deep and see out the game. However, United had other plans as another change in shape lead to a remarkable turn around in the final quarter of the game. Brandon Williams, Mason Greenwood, and Marcus Rashford scored in the space of seven minutes to change the game on its head. Sheffield found themselves under immense pressure as United attacked in numbers during the final quarter of the game.

This game still had one more twist to come as Sheffield dug in deep and eventually scored the equaliser in the final minute of the regular time. Oliver McBurnie slotted past De Gea after a delightful cross from Robinson.

United away miseries continue to haunt them in the league. The Red Devils slipped to ninth position after this result. Sheffield meanwhile remained sixth in the league after this draw.
