United face Rochdale in Third Round clash

The problems are mounting up for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at an injury torn Manchester United.

And after the Red Devils loss to West Ham on the weekend, a cup run could bring confidence and raise the morale of a depleted squad that is struggling for consistency. League One side Rochdale will be hoping to cause a huge upset in the Carabao Cup tomorrow evening, but their 2-1 loss to Fleetwood on the weekend to and their recent form suggests that the cup tie might be too much of a struggle for them.

Team news

Long term injuries rule out Anthony Martial, Luke Shaw, Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah, whilst Rashford will be unavailable after limping off with a groin injury against West Ham on Sunday.  There could be positive news however as Paul Pogba and young prospect Mason Greenwood could return from injury.

Meanwhile, Rochdale’s loanee Tyler Magloire, is back at his parent club receiving treatment, and Eoghan O’Connell was subbed off at half-time on the weekend, meaning a trip to Old Trafford could come too early for the centre-back.

Home manager – Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

It seems like Manchester United will give world cup winner Paul Pogba minutes, to get him back to match fitness for the weekend.

He’ll probably get some minutes against Rochdale, but we definitely think he’s ready against Arsenal.

Away manager Brian Barry-Murphy

Rochdale are relishing the chance, and manager Brian Barry-Murphy has commented on how big a fixture it is for the League One side.

“It’s a huge honour to take the club into that stadium in a fixture that everybody has been looking for since the draw was made.”

Head-to-head

History will be made as this will be the first ever competitive match between the two teams in this tournament. It will also only the second-ever competitive game between the two teams, with Manchester United beating Rochdale 2-0 in the FA Cup back in 1986.

Expected line-ups

Manchester United – Romero; Dalot, Jones, Tuanzebe, Rojo; Garner, Fred, Pereira;  Chong, Gomes, Greenwood

Rochdale – Sanchez; Keohane, O’Connell, McNulty, Norrington-Davies; M. Williams, Rathbone; Dooley, Camps, Done; Henderson
