Sol Campbell leaves the managerial position at Macclesfield Town

After eight months in charge of the club, Sol Campbell has left Macclesfield by mutual consent.

The ex-England international took charge of the newly promoted club in November 2018 with the club struggling in League Two as they were bottom when Campbell took over the club as manager.

Campbell kept them in the English Football League thanks to a run of just two defeats in their final 10 games.

The 44-year-old spoke briefly about his time and experiences at Macclesfield:

“Macclesfield Town gave me a great beginning in the managerial side of the game and fantastic learning curve which I am truly grateful for,” he said.

“I would like to thank all the players and staff for their support during my time at the Moss Rose and also all the loyal fans, whose belief at the end of last season ultimately played a tangible role in our success.”

Campbell’s last game in charge was a penalty shootout victory over Blackpool in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, after a win and a loss in their opening two League Two fixtures.

Danny Whitaker will take training on Thursday and Friday and is likely to take charge of the team at Northampton on Saturday.
