Idrissa Gana Gueye has joined Paris Saint-Germain for an estimated fee of £30m.

The Senegalese AFCON runner-up has joined after three years at Everton, in which he finished eighth twice and seventh with the Toffees respectively.

He returns to France after seven years with LOSC Lille between 2008-2015, and will look to add to his singular Ligue 1 title which he won in 2011.

This transfer comes after rumours in January and last summer about a move to the French capital, in which Gueye will now ply his trade.

He first arrived on our shores in a £9m move to Aston Villa in 2015. This however would be the season which the Villans would capsize into the Championship with just 17 points. He would play under Tim Sherwood, Remi Garde and Eric Black, but featured 35 times and scored his only goal in a League Cup win over Wycombe Wanderers.

Ronald Koeman swooped to take him to Everton in which he duly impressed in his first season, looking like an excelling Senegalese version of N’Golo Kante, intercepting and creating space for others with his energy and workhorse-like effort.

He had another decent season in which his defensive role was intensified after the arrival of ‘Big Sam’ Allardyce, and was named joint player of the year for the 2018/19 season alongside Lucas Digne.

He has made 64 appearances for his country also, scoring four times.

It is difficult to see the role he will play at PSG. Maybe he is the long-due replacement for Blaise Matuidi, and now the outgoing Adrien Rabiot, in the number 6 defensive midfield role. Or he perhaps will be part of their squad rotation system.

At 29, it certainly isn’t a long-term signing in the eyes of Paris Saint-Germain. But he is a safe and secure option in which the fans will be pleased with.
