AC Milan excluded from Europa League

Italian giants AC Milan have been excluded from the Europa League for the 2019/20 season.

The club finished fifth in Serie A last season, missing out on Champions League football by a point to bitter rivals Internazionale. Since the season end, manager Gennaro Gattusso has left the club and now they have been thrown into more trouble with exclusion from the Europa League.

The sanctions have been put in place for a breach of Financial Fair Play rules, cited as overspending by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas).

Their exclusion means Roma are put into the group stage whilst the qualifying place is given to the seventh placed side, in this case Turin based side Torino.

Milan appealed a two-year ban from European exclusion last year and were successful, but continued financial issues have thrown the club into further disarray.
