UEFA Euro U-21: Germany victorious over Romania to progress into the final

Germany faced Romania at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara in a game that would book one of the sides place in the Under 21’s European Championships final.

Germany kicked off the first-half with the hope they could reach and retain their European crown.

The first 15 minutes of the first-half were very even with both teams having equal possession and also having two shots but were off target.

In the 19th minute, Germany were the team that had the first shot that tested a goal-keeper. Levin Oztunali cut inside and had an effort at goal, but Andrei Radu made a comfortable save.

Germany took the lead not long after. A brilliant tackle from Maximilian Mittelstadt passed the ball onto Luca Waldschmidt and passed it onto Nadiem Amiri who made a darting run and fired a low shot under Radu to make it 1-0 to Germany.

In the 25th minute, Timo Baumgartl gave away a penalty and George Puscas scored the subsequent penalty to equalise for Romania.

Romania made it 2-1 with not long left in the first-half. A great break away from Romania saw Andrei Ivan cross the ball into the box with Puscas directing a great header into the back of the net.

The referee blew the whistle for half-time. Germany scored early on, but a brace from Puscas gave Romania a 2-1 lead.

In the second half, Ianis Radu gave away a penalty when he pulled Mahmoud Dahoud back subsequently allowing Luca Waldschmidt to scored his sixth goal of the competition and level it up for Germany.

The first 15 minutes in the second-half were dominated by Germany who looked to try and regain their lead and Romania looked to hit Germany on the counter-attack.

Most of the second-half, Germany dominated possession as they looked for a chance to score a third goal that will send them to the final of the competition.

In the dying stages, Germany made it 3-2. After a great set piece, the prolific Luca Waldschmidt scored his second with his low shot bouncing off the post on going into the back of the net.

Not long after it was 4-2. A wonderful free-kick from Amiri beat Radu and sent Germany to the final of the tournament.

The referee blew his whistle with Germany in the final and dark horse Romania knocked out, despite being 2-1 up at half-time.
