Nigel Adkins to depart Hull City at the end of the month after rejecting new contract

Hull City head coach Nigel Adkins will be ending his 18 month stay at Championship side Hull City after failing to agree a new deal.

The former Sheffield United boss was appointed back in December 2017 arriving after the departed Leonid Slutsky left the KCOM Stadium with the side sat 20th in the league.

Since that time the Englishman has secured survival for the former Premier League side, after they finished 18th in the second tier of English football, while this season Hull finished 13th.

After finishing in the highest league position since promotion to the Premier League back in 2015-2016, Adkins has decided it is time to call an end to his time in the dugout with Hull.

The Head coach said in a statement:

“It is with a heavy heart and after much careful consideration that I have decided that our futures are not aligned and that I will be leaving the club when my current expires on the 30th June.”

Adkins future had been in doubt for a while as the head coach announced in March that he wanted to know the direction the club wanted to move in before he agrees to any sort of deal.

Andy Crosby, assistant manager for the Championship side will also leave with his head coach at the end of the month.

On the club’s website The Tigers said:

“The Club would like to place on record its thanks for all of the hard work and dedication Nigel and Andy have shown since joining in December 2017, steering the side to Championship safety in the first few months and then a 13th-place finish last season. We wish them both well for the future.”

They also added that the search for Adkins successor was ‘underway’ as they look to find a new boss for the 2019-2020 season, as they look to build on their mid-table finish.
