The Blues were given the ban in February and were unsuccessful in their appeal to FIFA in May. The Europa League winners were prohibited from signing players due to a breach of rules regarding the signing of under-18 foreign players.
Following having their appeal rejected just last month, the London outfit said they would contest the decision and take the matter to the Court of Arbitration. However, there is no deadline set to when they will give their verdict.
In a statement, the Court of Arbitration for sport (CAS) said:
“The appeal is directed against the FIFA Appeal Committee decision dated 11 April 2019 in which CFC was declared liable for violations of the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players and banned from registering new players, nationally and internationally, for two entire and consecutive registration periods.”
As it currently stands Chelsea are unable to register any incoming players until June 2020. With a host of players including Eden Hazard set to leave Stamford Bridge, the club do have the option to ask CAS to freeze their transfer ban until their case is heard, which would leave them free to recruit players this summer.
