Jose Antonio Reyes dies in a car crash, aged 35

Former Arsenal and Real Madrid forward Jose Antonio Reyes has tragically died in a car crash in his home country of Spain.

On Saturday, his hometown club of Sevilla confirmed the news that Reyes was involved in a serious car accident.

“We couldn’t be confirming worse news. Beloved Sevilla star José Antonio Reyes has died in a traffic collision. Rest in peace.”

The 35-year old spent three seasons in the Premier League with Arsenal, winning the title and the FA Cup in that time. After leaving London in 2007, the Spaniard enjoyed spells at Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, Espanyol, Córdoba and Chinese club, Xinjiang Tianshan Leopard.

In a 20-year career, Reyes went on to win 21 caps for his country, scoring four goals.

Spanish newspaper outlet ‘Marca’ are reporting that the heartbreaking collision occurred in Utrera, the town where Reyes was born.
