Chelsea and former England goalkeeper Rob Green has announced his retirement from football.
The former England goalkeeper started his career at Norwich City and spent 14 years with the Canaries’ and the shot stopper also played for West Ham, Queens Park Rangers, Leeds, Huddersfield and Chelsea at the end of his career.
The Englishmen has not played a single game since 2017 whilst he has been second or third choice keeper for Huddersfield and Chelsea.
Green says celebrating the Europa League win with Chelsea was a “fitting” way to end his career after more than 650 professional appearances and a long 23 years in the sport. He also said:
“It’s been an amazing journey for me in the game and I’ve loved every moment. I’ve played with and against some of the best players in the world and have experienced so much that professional football has to offer.
I have played for some fantastic clubs and I feel honoured to have played for England.”
Green won the Football League First Division with Norwich City in the 2003–04. He has also won the Football League Championship play-offs in the 2011–12 season and in the 2013-14 season with QPR. Some of his individual accolades he has won are an inclusion in the PFA Team of the Year in the 2003–04 First Division season and West Ham United Hammer of the Year award in the 2007–08 season.
