Portugal defender Matilde Fidalgo has signed for Manchester City Women from SC Brago.

The 25-year-old has agreed a two-year contract and will join the Women’s Super League club on 1 July.

Fidalgo is vastly experienced and has won the Portuguese league title with Benfica, Sporting CP and Braga and well as winning 43 caps for her national side.

The right-back is a second cousin of Bernardo Silva, sharing a great-grandmother with the Manchester City (men’s) and Portugal forward.

Speaking about his new signing, manager Nick Cushing said:

“Matilde came on our radar about a year ago we’ve been tracking her performances for a while now.

“She’s a committed defender with a strong desire to win every game she is playing in and that winning mentality will be key next season when we’re competing on all four fronts.

“We’re delighted to have her at Manchester City and excited to help take her game to the next level.”
