Manchester City make history by completing domestic treble

Manchester City completed a historic domestic treble by equalling the record for the largest win in the FA Cup Final, defeating Watford 6-0 at Wembley.

Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus both scored braces, while Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva also got involved in the rout.

Outclassing Watford from start to finish, the Citizens achieved the biggest FA Cup final win since Bury’s 6-0 victory over Derby in 1903.

The victory, City’s sixth FA Cup triumph and Guardiola’s first, means their Spanish boss has won six trophies since taking over in 2016.

Meanwhile, the Citizens’ win means Wolves – who finished seventh in the Premier League, will compete in the second qualifying round of the Europa League.

Pep Guardiola has now secured a historic first ever men’s domestic treble. After adding the Premier League title last weekend to their League Cup triumph earlier in the season, City eased to victory at the national stadium.

City’s rivals Manchester United will claim that their 1998-98 treble of League, FA Cup and Champions League outranks City’s success; however, Guardiola’s side have set a precedent in which no male side has completed a domestic treble before.

Speaking afterwards, City boss Guardiola said:

“It was an incredible final for us and we have finished an incredible year.

“To all the people at the club, a big congratulations, especially the players because they are the reason why we have won these titles.”
