Brentford finish the season in style with a 3-0 win over Preston

Brentford finished off the season in style as they comfortably beat Preston 3-0 at Griffin Park in the final game of the season.

The match started off in the most unfortunate way for the Bees as defender Julian Jeanvier went down after just 15 seconds. The French centre half suffered a nasty looking head injury as paramedics rushed in with a stretcher. He was stretched off after a 10-minute delay with  Moses Odubajo replacing him.

The first proper chance didn’t come until the 15th minute as Sergi Canos’ curling shot was comfortably held by Preston keeper Connor Ripley.

Preston’s first chance came three minutes later with Calum Robinson hitting it straight at Luke Daniels. Just a few minutes later Brentford defender Luke Racic had a great shot cleared off the line, as he aimed to score on his full debut.

With 13 minutes added due to Jeaniver’s injury, Brentford pressed for the lead and their efforts were rewarded in the 4th added minute. As defender Ezri Konsa scored his first goal for the club, smashing it in from the far post after an initial corner was kept alive.

The Bees continued where they left off in the second half as attacker Ollie Watkins hit the side netting after a great initial build up. The home fans initially thought it had gone in for a few seconds just to find out it hit the wrong side of the net.

They doubled their lead 8 minutes into the second half as Talisman Neal Maupay tapped it in for his 25th league goal of the season after an Excellent cut back by Watkins.

The match fizzled out after the second goal with a lack of chances for either side with the home side dominating the ball.

However, the Bees grabbed a third seven minutes from time as substitute Marcus Forss hit a low shot outside the box, which flew into the bottom corner, in doing so he scored his first goal for the club.

With nothing but pride to play for between the two sides, nothing changed too drastically as Brentford finished 11th ensuring a similar position to last season. Though Preston dropped down to 14th ending a frustrating season.
