Saunders seeks new club after mission complete at Margate

Jay Saunders set to leave Margate at the end of the season.

Saunders will be searching for a new club once more after it was confirmed yesterday by current club Margate that his spell as manager will come to an end after this weekend’s game against Harlow Town following two months in the role.

A club statement reads:

“Jay had a very positive impact on the team when he arrived in January to help ensure the Gate did not fall into the relegation dog fight. Saunders is now leaving the Club after fulfilling his task of keeping the Gate in the Bostik Premier League.”

“Everyone at the club wishes Jay the best and we thank him for his hard work and professionalism during his time as manager.”

Saunders had previously been manager of fellow Kent side Maidstone United in a role which he had held since March 2011 before departing the National League side in August 2018. During his time at the Gallagher Stadium, he oversaw the club achieving promotion from the Isthmian League South to the National League over the course of four years whilst actually moving into their current stadium previously aforementioned.

Margate are currently in their second season back in the Bostik Premier Division following their relegation from the National League South in 2017 where they were members of for two seasons. 2017 also saw the club implement a 3G surface at their Hartsdown Park home.

Mike Sandmann is also departing the Gate on Saturday having been at the club for over two seasons and reportedly having “had a very positive impact on the team in both a coaching and management role.”
