Jessica Fishlock and Lucy Bronze contribute to Lyon Women’s title win

Olympique Lyonnais Feminine won their 13th consecutive league title after a 4-0 win over Dijon and two home nations players were part of it.

Wales’ most capped player Jess Fishlock and England’s Lucy Bronze had been vital in Lyon’s march to the title. Fishlock is currently on loan at Lyon from her parent club Seattle Reign, in the National Women’s Soccer League, and will return when her Lyon commitments end.

After the disappointment of missing out on World Cup qualification with Wales, the midfielder (with 116 international caps to her name) can at least celebrate success at domestic level.

Fishlock has appeared 13 times for Lyon in the league this season. In that time she has scored once and provided three assists.

Bronze is widely considered as the best right-back in the world and has continued to prove that since leaving Manchester City in 2017 to join the French champions.

She was the first English player to win the BBC’s Women’s Footballer of the Year award and was shortlisted for the inaugural Women’s Ballon d’Or which was won by team-mate Ada Hegerberg.

The England international won the Champions League in her first season with the club and will be looking to retain it. First, they must get past Chelsea in the second leg of the semi-final which takes place on Sunday.

Bronze has made 16 league appearances for Lyon this season, scoring once and providing two assists.

With the World Cup approaching, Bronze is a key part of Phil Neville’s squad and will have ambitions of winning the tournament. If England do end up lifting the trophy in Paris, it will be home from home for Bronze.
