Leeds United winger Ezgjan Alioski to miss rest of the season

Leeds winger Ezgjan Alioski suffered a torn meniscus and has been declared injured for the remainder of the Championship season.

The 27-year-old only played 12 minutes of Leeds’ 2-0 loss to Brentford, which meant United lost ground in their battle for promotion.

With surgery happening earlier on today, Alioski is expected to be facing around six weeks on the treatment table which will mean he will miss crucial games after being a valuable part of his team.

Club Director of Football Victor Orta released a statement on the club website saying:

“We are disappointed by the news that Ezgian is unlikely to play again this season.

“He has shown his quality throughout the year playing in various positions, he is popular figure around the club who always puts his team mates first and sets an example for the younger players.”

The crucial games that the winger will miss includes the playoff games if Marcelo Bielsa’s side have to play in them. Coming up the Yorkshire-based side have to face Aston Villa who have won a historical ten matches in a row and already relegated Ipswich Town.

Capped for Macedonia over 20 times, the winger who has been at Elland Road since July 2017 where he’s played 90 times for the Championship side. During that time he has scored 14 times having created 11 assists.

The 2-0 loss to Brentford has almost ended Bielsa’s hopes of gaining automatic promotion to the Premier League.  This defeat follows a 2-1 loss to Wigan Athletic and after Sheffield United’s 3-0 win over Hull City, the Sheffield-based club are in the pole position.

Sheffield United are second in the Championship, three points ahead of their Yorkshire rivals as they aim for top-flight football for the first time since the 2006-2007 season.
