Steve McClaren has been sacked as manager of Queens Park Rangers following just one win from their last 15 league games.

The former England manager oversaw 46 matches as manager, winning 16, drawing nine and losing 21.

QPR CEO Lee Hoos expressed his appreciation for McClaren on a statement on the club website while also acknowledging that a change was necessary with the club in transition.

“Making a decision such as this is never easy,” he said, “Especially when you are talking about someone as professional and dedicated as Steve.

“We are grateful to him for all his efforts during his time with us. It is well documented that we are in a period of transition as we work hard to make the club financially stable.

“As we look to the future, and taking recent results into account, we feel now is the right time to re-evaluate where we are.”

The Championship outfit are currently 17th in the table, eight points above the relegation zone, having collected just one win since Boxing Day.

Rangers’ Director of Football Les Ferdinand also thanked McClaren for his work and highlighted the need for change at the club heading into next season.

“Steve has worked incredibly hard during his time with us but as we start to make plans for next year we feel this change is necessary now, rather than wait until the end of the season, or risk having to make such a decision early in the new campaign.”

McClaren, 57, was appointed in May 2018. His assistant John Eustace has been placed in interim charge of the club. His first game will be an away clash against Norwich on Saturday.
