Record number of countries register interest in hosting Women’s World Cup 2023

FIFA have announced that a record nine countries have expressed their interest in submitting a bid to host the Women’s World Cup in 2023.

The member associations (MAs) that have sent expressions of interest are Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Japan, Korea (expressing interest in a joint bid with DPR Korea), New Zealand and South Africa.

The first edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup took place in 1991 in China and was won by the United States.

All countries have until 16 April 2019 to submit their bidding registration to FIFA.

FIFA have said they “will implement a fair and transparent process, which will include a clear evaluation model as well as a concrete commitment to sustainability and human rights.”

The 2019 World Cup takes place in France between 7 June and 7 July.
