FA Cup semi final Draw: Manchester City face Brighton, Watford battle Wolves

Both ties for the FA Cup semi-finals are now known as current Premier League champions Manchester City face Brighton & Hove Albion while Wolves and Watford will meet in the other match.

It is the fourth time in a row that only top-flight sides will be in the last four of English football’s top cup competition.

With the final insight, City hope to continue their dream of becoming the first ever English side to win the quadruple. Brighton stand in City’s path to the final, though if the last time the two met has any bearing on the result then City should be fine.

The two last met at the Etihad Stadium back in late September last year and the hosts won 2-0 courtesy of goals from  Raheem Sterling and Sergio Agüero. Chris Hughton’s men will be hoping that history will repeat itself as last time the two met in the FA Cup they won.

That time was in January 1983 in that match, the Seagulls won 4-0 thanks to a double from Michael Robinson, while Jimmy Case and Neil Smillie got the other two.

After that win the South Coast side went on to reach their only final in their history eventually losing to Manchester United after holding them to a 2-2 draw, the game was replayed with the Red Devils winning 4-0.

Both City and Brighton come from behind to make the semi-finals of the FA Cup

Elsewhere in the other tie, Watford will host Wolverhampton Wanderers, with the later making it to the semi-finals for the first time in 21 years.

The two last met in October last year with the London based side running away with three points after winning 2-0 at the Molineux Stadium, goals from Etienne Capoue and Roberto Pereyra won that game.

Back in 2008, the sides competed in their last FA Cup match against each other, this was in the fourth round of the competition and Wolves progressed after winning 4-1 in a match where now Perth Glory striker Andy Keogh scored a double.

The weekend beginning Saturday 6th April will host both matches with them Wembley Stadium hosting both games.

The two sides who make it to the final will receive £1.8 million from The FA prize fund while the two losers will pick up £900,000.

Saturday 18th May will be the day that the final of the FA Cup is scheduled for.
