Chelsea Women had a lucky escape before tonight’s match against Liverpool Women when a shattered window crashed down in front of them during a walk on Dale Street.
Storm Gareth is thought to be the cause of the window breaking from a vacant office window in the top floor of the building.
A picture taken by a witness shows Chelsea players stood on Dale Street, yards away from the shattered glass as a police official examines the window inside the building, hours before they took on Liverpool at Prenton Park tonight.
A spokesman for Chelsea FC Foundation said:
“The Chelsea FC Women were out for their matchday walk ahead of tonight’s game. No one was injured.”
It has been labelled a “freak accident.”
The Blues brushed off the earlier incident to beat Liverpool 4-0, as Fran Kirby’s hat-trick and goal from Adelina Engman was good enough to beat the Merseyside team. The win means that the London based side move just a point of rivals Arsenal in second place.
Next up Chelsea face Durham Women in the Quarter-Finals of the Women’s FA Cup, the match will take place this Sunday at New Ferens Park.
