Jackett ‘frustrated’ after defeat to Charlton

Kenny Jackett voiced his frustrations as his Portsmouth side were disappointing in defeat against fellow play-off chasers Charlton Athletic.

Goals from Joe Aribo and Lyle Taylor were enough to see the East-London side do the double over Pompey.

Speaking on the winning goal, Jackett said:

“The winning goal came when we were down to ten- nothing anybody could have done about it. Gareth (Evans) has gone off the pitch into the boards and we have then conceded in that period.”

Despite this, the Portsmouth boss made no excuses stating his side made “big chances” which they couldn’t take, most notably Jamal Lowe who dragged his effort wide following Pittman’s weighted cross-field ball.

Jackett was also full of praise for the Charlton midfield, he claimed:

“They are very, very strong in midfield – very good technical players. At times we didn’t get to grips with that. Krystian Bielik in the first half was very, very good.”

Midfielder Joe Aribo was awarded Man of the Match and Charlton manager Lee Bowyer was quick to issue a hands-off warning to clubs interested stating:

“He should stay here and keep learning.”

Bowyer was also quick to praise Taylor who netted the winner which was his first goal since January, speaking to the media himself Taylor said:

“It did bother me (that he hadn’t scored), but because there haven’t been any Tuesdays games it has only been three or four games since I last scored.”

Taylor, who has already netted 16 times in all competitions this season, stated his side “have to carry momentum” into the remainder of the season following this important win over play-off rivals.

Looking ahead, Portsmouth will face a trip to the Midlands to face Walsall. Elsewhere on Tuesday night, Charlton host Burton Albion at The Valley.
