Rodgers appointed Leicester manager

Brendan Rodgers has been appointed Leicester City manager on a contract until June 2022.

Rodgers replaces the outgoing Claude Puel, who was fired after a run of just three wins in fifteen games for the Foxes.

Leicester announced the appointment of Rodgers on Twitter:

Leicester face Brighton at the King Power this evening with Rodgers keen to see his new team get back to winning ways as he watches from the stands.

During his time with Celtic, the Northern Irishman won seven domestic trophies in two and a half seasons.

Rodgers’ coaching staff will be made up of Assistant Manager, Chris Davies; First Team Fitness Coach, Glen Driscoll; and First Team Coach, Kolo Touré.

Speaking on his appointment, the 46-year-old was clearly delighted to be joining the Foxes.

“I’m very privileged and honoured to be here as Leicester City manager and I’ll give my life to make the supporters proud of their club.

“Together, we’ll be stronger and I’m looking forward to working with the players, staff and supporters to make the right steps forward.”

Leicester currently sit in 12th position in the table. The former Liverpool, Watford, Swansea and Reading manager will be keen to push towards continental qualification, challenging the likes of Everton, West Ham and Watford for the Europa League places.

Leicester Vice Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha was also excited for what the future holds with Rodgers at the helm.

“I’m absolutely delighted to bring a manager of Brendan’s calibre to Leicester City and I look forward to seeing what he, our talented, young squad and our dedicated, skilled team of staff can achieve together.”

Rodgers’ first game in charge will be a trip to one of his former clubs Watford on Sunday.
