Ipswich Town and Norwich City punished following Derby Day fracas

Ipswich Town and Norwich City have been handed punishments by the FA following their improper conduct in the East Anglian derby earlier this month.

Town boss Paul Lambert has received a two-match touchline suspension after he was sent off in his side’s 3-0 defeat to Norwich City at Carrow Road.

The former Norwich boss was restrained by stewards and police as tempers flared following comments made in response to Jon Nolan’s late tackle on Max Aarons.

Ipswich have accepted their punishment, but Lambert questioned the role of the steward on the touchline at Carrow Road.

“There was no point appealing because I wasn’t going to win but I have had my say about what when on and I stand by every word,” he told the club website.

“I’ll get on with it now. It’s not ideal but I trust my staff to do what I ask them to do. There will be no problem there.”

“Will it make a difference, not being on the touchline? I don’t know. I can talk to the players before the game and after. They will know what is expected of them.”

Town have also been fined £20,000 for their improper conduct in the 45th and 90th minutes. Norwich will also be fined £25,000 as their greater punishment comes due to their historic record in relation to controlling their players.

Canaries coach Chris Domogalla has avoided a touchline ban despite also being sent-off by match official Peter Bankes.
