Leeds striker Kemar Roofe out for unknown period with knee injury

Leeds United’s top goal scorer Kemar Roofe is set to face an unknown period on the sidelines after the striker suffered an injury to his knee ligaments after last week’s 2-1 win over Swansea City.

He underwent scan’s today after reporting to training and complaining about a pain in his knee, although the time that their 14-time scoring player is out for isn’t known the club have expressed their hope that he will make it back by the end of the season.

In a statement the club said Roofe:

“Will face a period on the sidelines following confirmation that he damaged knee ligaments during the win over Swansea City last week at Elland Road.”

“Roofe will now work hard with the medical team at Thorp Arch to return to action as quickly as possible.”

It’s the second time this season that the 26-year-old has suffered an injury as the Walsall born attacker missed six matches between September and October with a calf strain.

The player posted an image on Instagram, expressing his frustration:

His injury will cause a selection headache for manager Marcelo Bielsa as he already has five players missing due to injury. As Jack Clarke, Stuart Dallas, Gaetano Berardi, Adam Forshaw and Barry Douglas are out.

Leeds are currently 3rd in the league, though have a game in hand over both Norwich City and Sheffield United.

This weekend they host second from bottom Bolton Wanderers, while Norwich host Bristol City and Sheffield United travel away to West Brom.

Bielsa’s men only have 14 games remaining to gain promotion and with Roofe out their battle could go on until the end of the season.
