Tyrone Mings escapes punishment for alleged stamp

It has been confirmed that Aston Villa full-back Tyrone Mings will not face retrospective action after an incident in Villa’s 0-0 draw with Reading. Mings stood on the face on Reading striker Nelson Oliveira leaving him with serious facial injuries.

The incident in question happened in Saturday’s game at the Madejski Stadium and saw the 25-year-old accidentally stand on the face of Portuguese attacker Oliveria, prompting the player to be taken off and rushed to hospital.

After getting rushed to the Royal Berkshire Hospital it is suspected that the striker suffered a broken nose and a number of lacerations to his face.

As the decision was seen and acted upon by officials during the game, no charges are about to be brought against Mings whose on-loan from Premier League side AFC Bournemouth.

The Championship side posted a statement on their twitter about the situation:

The Villa player also took to Twitter, saying he was “awfully sorry” over the situation and that “no one felt worse than him” about Oliveria’s injury.

The on-loan Norwich striker Oliveria announced on Instagram that he is recovering at home after having surgery on Sunday, thanking the medical team that were quick to respond and treat him following the incident on Saturday afternoon.

When her husband was in hospital Oliveria’s wife Mel took to her Instagram account to hound the footballer saying:

“It was a sad day for us and I hope someone will appeal for this guy to get a lengthy ban.”

“There’s absolutely no excuse for his behaviour.”

“He knew where his head was. Any injury is upsetting but something like this is just disgusting.”

“I hope something will happen, he can’t get away with that! He’s got previous!”

It isn’t the first time Mings has been in hot water over a situation where the defender has allegedly stood on a player. In March 2017 the defender had to serve a five-match ban for accidentally standing on then Manchester United player Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s head.

Ibrahimovic responded by elbowing the then Bournemouth player and both were punished retrospectively after neither were acted upon during their 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.
