From Peter Crouch to Burnley and Denis Suarez to Arsenal, a round-up of Deadline Day deals

In what seemed a relatively quiet Deadline Day in comparison to years gone by, a handful of club’s were involved in record signing deals of marquee players to aid their push for promotion or against relegation.

Twelve deals completed on the final day of the window led to a combined total of around £50 million; however, deadline-day spending was less than half of last year’s total.

January 2018 saw £430 million spent by Premier League clubs with £150 million on Deadline Day alone. This January saw just £180 million spent on players by Premier League clubs with the Championship spending £60 million, double their £30 million total from 2018.

The biggest deal on transfer deadline day saw Newcastle United break their signing record with the £21 million addition of Paraguayan playmaker Miguel Almiron from Amercan MLS side Atlanta United. The Magpies also added Monaco defender Antonio Barreca on-loan.

Arsenal missed out on the signing of Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic, Dalian Yifang wide man Yannick Carrasco and Paris St-Germain midfielder Christopher Nkunku; however, the London side completed the loan signing of Denis Suarez from Barcelona for the rest of the season.

Peter Crouch will feature for his seventh Premier League club after completing a deal to sign for Burnley. The 37-year-old turns 38 on Wednesday and will play for the Clarets until the end of the season; Sam Vokes completed the deal by moving to Stoke City for a fee of £7 million plus add-ons.

Chris Hughton added to his side’s attacking department with the addition of Slovenian Jan Mlakar for an undisclosed fee; meanwhile, Leicester completed the loan signing of Youri Tielemans from AS Monaco.

Lazar Markovic underwent an undisclosed move from Liverpool to Fulham as Claudio Ranieri looked to boost his side’s chances of survival. Michy Batshuayi’s loan switch to Crystal Palace was completed in the final few moments of Deadline Day.
