Worst case scenario for PSG as Neymar ruled out for ten weeks

Neymar has been ruled out for around ten weeks, news that will come as a huge blow for Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League campaign after the attacker suffered from a broken metatarsal.

The injury means that the Brazilian will be missing from both legs of the clubs major round of 16 European tie with English side Manchester United, one that looked difficult with the inclusion of the former Barcelona man.

The 26-year-old left the pitch in tears after landing awkwardly on his ankle in the 62nd minute of their round of 32 Coupe de France win over Strasbourg last Wednesday. Despite Neymar going off the Parisians won 2-0.

French champions PSG travel to Old Trafford on the 12th February to face Manchester United in the first leg before hosting them on the 6th of March when the two meet at Le Parc des Princes.

Thomas Tuchel’s team announced in a statement that the side:

“Gathered together a group of world-renowned medical experts at the Ooredoo Training Centre to carry out a thorough review of the injury to Neymar Jr.’s right foot.”

Adding on the Ligue 1 side said:

“After detailed analysis by the specialists, a consensus was reached of a conservative treatment of Neymar Jr.’s injury to the fifth right metatarsal.”

The player was also said to have “agreed” with the decision made by the medical experts and “is expected to return to the field within ten weeks”.

Ending the statement the French club said:

“Paris St-Germain sends its strongest support and encouragement to Neymar Jr. to overcome this injury, with the courage and determination that the player has always shown.”

Julian Draxler, Moussa Diaby, Kylian Mbappé and Ángel Di María are all players that can deputise in the Brazilian’s position whilst their main star sits on the sidelines.

Currently sitting 13 points clear in the league whilst having two games in hand, the Parisians next game is a tough match against 3rd placed Lyon before facing Villefranche in the last 16 of the Coupe de France.
