Spurs seek Wembley resurrection against high-flying Watford

Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham return back to Wembley Stadium on Wednesday night to play their first Premier League in over 10 days in which between that time, they exited both the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup. The club’s next four games over the next two weeks are all at home which features a Champions League last 16 tie against Borussia Dortmund.

Watford may well relish the chance to take on a Spurs side pretty low on morale whilst also being boosted by their recent FA Cup win at Newcastle. Javi Gracia’s side currently sit ninth in the league and could rise as high as seventh with a win.

Tottenham will be looking to close the gap to second-placed Manchester City to just two after the Citizens fell 2-1 at Newcastle on Tuesday night. It could prove a pivotal game in Tottenham’s season as they look to regain form looking ahead to games against Chelsea and Dortmund in February.

Spurs will be pleased that Son Heung-min can return to the starting eleven following South Korea’s quarter-final exit in the Asian Cup over a week ago whilst Moussa Sissoko is back to full fitness again however Ben Davies, Dele Alli and Harry Kane are all ruled out.

Watford boss Javi Gracia has no new injury concerns with both Isaac Success and Andre Gray looking to keep keep their places following their goals scored in Saturday’s win.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino spoke about the expectations placed on his side before the Watford clash:

“I love my job, I love the challenge.

“We are the victim of our own success. No-one believes in us, no-one believes it will bring success to the club.

“The club played once in the Champions League [before he took charge]. We are now three [seasons]in a row. That was a dream.”

Watford head coach Javi Gracia is thrilled with the depth of his squad as the Hornets look to do the double over the north London side:

“Believe me, it is not a problem. I am delighted with this. I am very pleased with all my players, especially Andre [Gray] and Isaac [Success], who scored in the last game.

“This is very, very good for the team to have different options. I trust all of them and they are waiting for their moment to show their level.
