Callum Hudson-Odoi saga takes another twist

The ‘will he won’t he’ saga of Callum Hudson-Odoi and whether he will leave Premier League side Chelsea, took another turn as the club have come out announcing he will not be sold.

This came after their 3-0 win over Championship side Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday in which Hudson-Odoi, to most people’s surprise, started and then went on to score. This was a surprise as the attacker has handed in a transfer request due to wanting more playing time.

The Wandsworth born footballer put on a show against the Championship side showing boss Maurizio Sarri that his services are wasted on the bench while also showing Bayern Munich why they should test the English sides strength and bid again.

Bayern have seen four bids turned down by the Chelsea board with the latest being a proposed sum of £35 million, as Chelsea are keen to keep one of their hottest prospects away from the clutches of one of their biggest European rivals.

With the 18-year-old yet to start a Premier League match this season and the player clearly stating his intentions to leave, it is a huge risk for the London club as his value will indefinitely drop as he enters the final year of his contract, as is the situation if he is not sold this transfer window.

After the FA Cup fourth round win, assistant boss Gianfranco Zola re-iterated the clubs desire for the Englishman to stay telling BBC Sport:

“We believe in what he can do for this club, we don’t know many 18-year-olds who are playing as much as him. It shows we believe in him.”

In the summer the winger will have yet another player to contest with as new £58 million signing Christian Pulisic will join the Blues. The American has been loaned back to Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund until the end of the season.
