Theirry Henry sacked as AS Monaco boss as Leonardo Jardim is reappointed

Theirry Henry has been sacked by AS Monaco. The former Monaco attacker lasted just three months in the dugout before being let go.

This was the Frenchman’s first stint as manager after being the assistant to Roberto Martinez with the Belgium national side for almost two years.

Henry, 41, replaced title-winning manager Leonardo Jardim on October 13, after the club sat third from bottom of in Ligue 1.

At the time Jardim had only won one league game, beating FC Nantes 3-1 on their opening match of the season, while the 41-year-old’s record was slightly better winning two of his twelve league matches. Those wins both came on the road as they beat SC Amiens and SM Caen.

Monaco announced via a statement on the club’s website that their former player had been suspended, it read:

“AS Monaco announces that it has decided to suspend its duties as coach of the first team Thierry Henry from this day and waiting for a final decision.

Franck Passi will train the professional group this Friday.”

Passi, 52, has been the caretaker manager of both Marseille and Lille, taking over as interim boss of the earlier side twice as an interim boss the Bergerac born man managed to win 12 matches from a possible 29. Drawing seven and losing ten.

Jardim was announced to take over from the former Monaco boss, he joins on a two-and-a-half year deal.

The France World Cup winner had made radical changes to the team, dropping major senior faces in favour of promoting the youth and leaves the 2017 Ligue 1 champions in a worsened condition than when he joined with the side one point ahead of bottom-placed En Avant de Guingamp.

Henry had come under scrutiny after the language he used to insult Strasbourg defender Kenny Lala during his side’s 5-1 defeat on Saturday, the boss has since apologised for his actions saying:

“Yes, I regret these words,” the Frenchman added “It’s not the first time, sometimes I do it in English. I just reacted, I’m sorry, yes, but I’m only human.”

The former Arsenal star never got the opportunity to face off against 18th place Dijon FCO, a game that is crucial in the fight to retain their Ligue 1 status.

After signing big hitters like Cesc Fabregas and Naldo, the principality cannot afford to be playing Ligue 2 football for the first time since the 2012-2013 season.
