David Beckham to join Class of 92 at Salford City

Former Manchester United striker David Beckham is set to join the Class of 92 as joint-owners of Salford City.

The Vanarama National League side, currently owned by Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Phil Neville and Nicky Butt, have ambitions of promotion to the Football League and are third in the standings, one point behind leaders Leyton Orient.

The former Manchester United winger purchased a 10% share for the Club, meaning that the Class of ’92 are now majority shareholders with a 60% ownership.

Peter Lim, the Singaporean business partner of the ownership group, remains the club’s largest single shareholder.

This investment by Beckham is his most recent in a series of acquisitions as the 43-year-old owns a stake in MLS side Inter Miami.

Speaking after the announcement, Beckham said:

“It’s a proud moment for me to join Peter Lim and the Class of 92 lads as an owner of Salford City FC.

“It’s a really special club and a special group of people. My early years in Manchester were all spent in Salford. I grew up there in many ways so to be able to finally join the lads and the club today is a great feeling.”

Beckham’s formal ownership is subject to approval by the Football Association; however, the club applied to the governing body on Wednesday for the former England international to be accepted.
