Anthony Martial close to agreeing new five-year deal with Manchester United

Manchester United have finally made a breakthrough with French forward Anthony Martial as the expectation is that the 23-year-old will agree a new five-year deal at Old Trafford.

United had been sweating over his long-term future, especially under former boss Jose Mourinho, as he ended talks with the Portuguese manager back in October last year, sparking fears he would leave.

The club did activate his year-long extension clause meaning that they have got the former Monaco star till the summer of 2020, but there had been fears his days were number in Manchester with Mourinho pushing to sell the French forward.

United bosses have been intent on getting new deals for both David De Gea and Martial to secure their long-term future with the club. Since Ole Gunnar Solskjær has arrived the attacker has started three in a row and looks hard to displace from the team and is currently United’s joint-top scorer with nine goals in all competitions.

Since his debut against Liverpool back in September 2015, he has scored 45 goals and assisted 27 times in 159 matches. No one will ever forget him bursting on the scene and scoring one of the goals in their 3-1 win that day.
