Unai Emery has revealed he is unsure what the future holds for goalkeeper Petr Cech.
The former Chelsea shot stopper was signed by Arsene Wenger in 2015 to solve the goalkeeper issues at the club. However, his own inconsistent form in the last 18 months has raised questions over his ability to continue to perform at the top level.
Emery brought in Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen as competition for the Czech Republic international and for the first few weeks of the season had to settle for a place on the substitutes bench.
A hamstring injury hit Cech in September and Leno has rarely relinquished his place in the side since.
Since the injury, Cech has made just four appearances under Emery and with his contract set to expire at the end of the season it seems unlikely he will still be an Arsenal player come August. Speaking on the subject, Emery gave his thoughts on the situation.
“I don’t know now, it has to do with the club and the player.”
“He started this season very well, very good behaviour, commitment and also performance. And then when he had his injuries, he recovered his position on the bench.
“I am very happy with him. We will speak in the future with the player but at the moment I want his focus to be the same in every training and match.”
Cech is not the only player out of contract at the end of the season, Aaron Ramsey’s future at Arsenal is under doubt, with links to Juventus getting stronger every day.
