EFL League 1 Round-Up: Tangerines swipe points Off Addicks

Portsmouth 2 : 0 Southend

Portsmouth’s 1st half performance over Chris Powell’s Southend United was enough for them as they opened up a six point gap at the top of the League 1 table in the days league action.

The league leaders came into this off the news they would be playing the Shrimpers at Roots Hall in the EFL Trophy 3rd Round next month following their 2-1 victory over Arsenal Under 21’s on Tuesday night. A Michael Turner own goal and a strike from Jamal Lowe secured the points in the first half at Fratton Park of which 18,062 people attended the game this weekend.

Blackpool 2 : 1 Charlton Athletic

Blackpool managed to take another scalp off a southern side in the form of Charlton Athletic at Bloomfield Road Stadium this weekend as they won 2-1 which ultimately saw the hosts drop out of the play-off places.

Armand Gnanduillet opened the scoring for the hosts after 16 minutes before Joe Aribo equalised for the visitors 10 minutes into the 2nd half. Nathan Delfouneso scored the winner in the 88th minute to win the 3 points for the Tangerines.

Elsewhere, Sunderland were held 1-1 by Accrington Stanley which means they remain in 2nd place on goal difference over Luton Town who won 2-0 against Fleetwood Town.

Bristol Rovers were defeated 4-0 at the Memorial Stadium by Doncaster Rovers which means they take 6th place following Charlton’s defeat to Blackpool.
