Ashley Cole to leave LA Galaxy in January

Former England international Ashley Cole will be a free agent following American side LA Galaxy opting not to re-sign the defender when his contract ends in January.

The 37-year-old has a big decision to make regarding continuing his playing career or retiring to peruse management or punditry. Perhaps Cole could walk away from the game completely. As of yet, there is no official word from Cole or any of his representatives on what he will do next.

The captain featured 94 times in total for the Los Angles-based side getting nine assists and a goal in his final season when he featured 32 times.

The left-back was one of eight players that got shown the door by the MLS outfit, though 16 players from last season’s squad are expected to remain including Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimović.

His team failed to reach the MLS playoffs this season after they lost 3-2 to Houston Dynamo. This meant they yet again missed out on a chance for the MLS Cup.

The former Chelsea and Arsenal defender is the sixth most-capped England player, earning 107 appearances for the national side between 2001 and 2014.

The Defender has enjoyed a fruitful club career with his best spells of being in England where he won a UEFA Champions League and Europa League for Chelsea. He also won three Premier League titles between his time at Arsenal and Chelsea.

He is also the record holder for most FA Cups as a player, achieving seven during his time at with both English clubs, second is former team-mate Petr Cech who has also won the cup with both London clubs.
